You select the last ticket for an event and start filling in your payment details. While you look for your card, someone else tries to buy the same ticket. The page showed availability to both of you, but one person will have to go without it.
I had watched a video about how Shopify handled this kind of competition when it moved its reservations from Redis to MySQL. I looked into it and came across
SKIP LOCKED, a feature I had never used. I liked the approach and wanted to try it in a project of my own.The opportunity came during CP2eJr's case competition. My team was building Pulso, an experimental ticketing platform, and I took on back-end work. Its reservation problem gave me a concrete reason to test that idea.
